Ball purchasing guidelines

Hi guys...

Just want to share to you all especially those who want to buy a bowling ball. This useful article guide I just found from other website.

So, you want to buy a ball. It may be your first or a replacement or upgrade. What are the considerations ? - it is a complex choice, and if you are considering a high end bowling ball, a mistake can be a costly oneTake a look at your local pro-shop and on display are a daunting selection of bowling balls and equipment. A miriad of colours, patterns shiny/dull surfaces, charts and figures. Enough to confuse even the seasoned bowler. How do you choose the best ball for you ?

Choosing a bowling ball, like many other types of sport equipment, can be somewhat confusing -- especially for beginning or novice bowlers. However, there are a few things to consider that will make choosing the right bowling ball easier.

First, you should decide how often you plan to use a bowling ball and how much you are willing to spend. Bowling balls are constructed of one of four basic types of material, and each is designed for a different purpose. The bowling ball most commonly purchased and used by beginning bowlers is plastic, though the balls are actually constructed of polyester. The plastic bowling ball is the least expensive type of ball, very durable, and the same construction as most in-house balls at bowling alleys. A plastic bowling ball generally stays on the course it is thrown and remains straight as it skids down the alley. The plastic bowling ball works well for kids and those learning the sport, but more experienced bowlers prefer a differently constructed ball.

The other types of bowling balls are reactive resin, particle, and urethane. These types of bowling balls suit different needs, but anyone learning to throw a hook will be better satisfied with one of these types over plastic. One important consideration when choosing one of these three types of construction is lane conditions. Dry lanes are lanes that are not oiled, and a urethane bowling ball will react fairly well to these conditions and can be polished to better control the hook. However, on oiled lanes, a reactive resin or particle bowling ball will react better than urethane.Along with the construction of a bowling ball, the weight is another important factor. Most people should select a ball that is approximately 10% of their total body weight. However, certain physical conditions may affect the need for less or more weight. A good way to determine the proper weight of a bowling ball is to try several different weights on in-house bowling balls and then add about one pound (453.59 grams) to the best weight ball. The reason for adding weight is because a bowling ball with custom drilled finger holes will make the ball feel slightly lighter.

My first hook ball

Hi everyone...

It's been my sixth day in marathon playing (or should I say practicing) how to release a hook ball since last Monday. It was my first time to play using a hook ball after I bought it at Miri. There were so many things played in my mind. How is the hook ball going to be when I first release it? Will it be hooked by it self when I release it?

The time that I was waiting for came after. At the first time I release the ball, it gone straight. At my second attempt, it tried to hook it, but it was spinning (it should be rolling). After so many times I tried to hook the ball, it doesn’t work. Noticing that I was trying that hard, a guy came approach and taught me how my wrist should be when I release the ball. He said that my wrist was ‘patah’ when I release the ball where it should be straight. Now I know why some bowlers use ‘wrister’ to release the bowling ball, hehehe... After a few attempts with some advice from that guy, you know what? I made it. I hook the ball on the lane. It feels AMAZING. Though, it was not perfect enough, LOL.

A few moments later, the seniors who played next to my lane came approaching us to start some conversation. They give some more advice to me on how to release the hook ball and how to play bowling in a proper way. I got so many lessons on that day and I felt lucky enough to know them. Thank god they came at the right time.

Come on guys, share me some of your experiences attempting the hook ball for the first time... It should be amazing right?
